How to Make Your Own Beeswax Candles
-
Purchase beeswax.
As mentioned, beeswax can now be easily purchased online. Buy filtered beeswax so impurities will not be included in your candle, which could prevent it from burning well. If you have bought an unfiltered beeswax, an additional step of filtering is necessary.
-
Melt and sieve.
Melt your beeswax on a broiler. If your beeswax is unfiltered, you may use a cloth to serve as a sieve separating the wax and solid particles. Once filtered, you can add coconut oil, or palm oil into your melted wax.
-
Position the wick.
Unlike ordinary candles, beeswax candles have a longer melting time and thus require a thicker wick to sustain the flame. Once you have chosen your wick size to be proportionate to your container, position it in the middle. Slowly pour a bit of the beeswax to keep the tip of the wick in position. Allow it to partially cool for about a minute.
-
Pour and wait.
Once the wick is in the right position, you may pour the remaining beeswax mixture on your mold and wait for it to cool.
Voila! You just made your own beeswax candle. It takes times to make but the numerous benefits it can give you and your family are worth the effort. Like other candles, beeswax candles are also available in organic stores for your convenience.
